The Perry Hotel is one of the hottest spots to stay when visiting Key West and the Lower Keys. It’s a bit outside of town, so it lacks the tourist hustle and bustle you get by staying in Old Town. But it more than makes up for it with its sophisticated yet laid-back atmosphere, relaxing harbor views, and Old World charm.
Even with the chilled vibe, there’s still plenty of Perry Hotel activities to divert you, though. Here’s a look at the five best things to do from the Perry, including delicious meals right on Stock Island and fun water excursions.
The Best Perry Hotel Activities on Stock Island, Key West
It’s hard to beat The Perry Hotel for activities and anything else when you’re coming to Key West. Not only is the pet friendly hotel one of the best in Key West, it’s also got a few of the best places to eat on the water.
Located on the island just before Key West, the Perry Hotel is convenient to everything, but it’s not in the hectic and crowded parts of Old Town. You won’t have to come to fisticuffs over a parking in Key West. It’s important to know that going in, however, because you need to realize that you can’t just stroll down the street to Duval. You can catch the Perry shuttle, which departs hourly and connects the hotel with the seaport area of Old Town.
But there are things to see, do, and eat on Stock Island. So people say that quiet Stock is a little like Key West was back in the Good Ol’ Days.
Lunch at Bad Boy Burrito
Bad Boy Taqueria and Tequila is located right by the second Perry pool. You can enjoy your tacos, burritos, and moreish tequila drinks by the pool. Basically, it’s the most awesome pool bar you’ve ever seen, because they have tacos. Be sure to check the specials board when you walk in.
Bad Boy is open 11 to 9 daily and has online ordering, should you want to grab your ‘rito to go.
Happy Hour at Salty Oyster
The Perry’s dockside bar and grill is a must-stop spot to sip and watch the boaters do boater things. The food menu is basic: sandwiches, burgers, and shareables; oh, and oysters, of course! The drink menu is perfect for hanging out by the water — I can’t think of a better place to order a mojito or their signature Perry Punch. Happy hour is from 4 to 6 every day, and there’s live music most nights, usually 4 to 7.
The Salty Oyster is open from 11 until 8, when the kitchen closes.
Walk to El Siboney for Dinner
El Siboney is a local spot that serves some excellent Cuban food. And if Fritos are the closest thing you’ve had to the cuisine from our nearest neighbor to the south, prepare to be impressed. Anything in the beef, pork, or seafood category is a great starting point. If there’s one rule, it’s to check the specials board!
To get to El Siboney, you simply walk north on Old Shrimp Road (the road that the Perry is on) until you see it, just off to your right when you get to 5th Avenue. It’s open every day from 11 to 9:30 pm.
Dinner at Matt's Stock Island
Matt’s is on the Perry property and is their upscale dining spot. The menu covers the gamut from regular bacon-and-egg breakfasts to sensational seafood creations. Plus, the place has a great wine list and cocktail menu.
Reservations are recommended at Matt’s. It’s open for breakfast on weekdays from 8 to 11:30 am, lunch and dinner daily from 11:30 to 9:30, and brunch Saturdays and Sundays from 8 to 2. There are extended hours for the bar and bar menu.
